Matthew Silberman

Matthew Silberman's musical experience began in utero, attending his mother's opera performances and rehearsals. He began his formal musical training with the piano and the clarinet, eventually falling in love with the saxophone at 13.

He grew up by the beach in Santa Monica, CA., and was thoroughly influenced by the infinite and timeless nature of the ocean. After attending the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Matthew traded the expansive beaches of California for the steel geometry of New York City. He attended the New School University Jazz and Contemporary Music Program, and currently resides in Brooklyn.

Matthew has performed with Billy Higgins, Nancy Wilson, Roy Hargrove, Peter Erskine, Robert Hurst, Gregory Tardy, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Patrice Rushen, Bobby Sanabria, and contemporaries such as Logan Richardson, Tommy Crane, Greg Ruggiero, Frank LoCrasto, Chris Tordini, Jonathan Finlayson, Tyshawn Sorey, Mike Pinto, Becca Stevens, Nir Felder, Ben Wendel and Alan Hampton among many others.

He has also recorded with Ambrose Akinmusire, Mike Moreno, Elizabeth & the Catapult, Warren Cuccurullo, Krystle Warren & the Faculty, and Fisticuffs, whom he also composed with for Miguel. He collaborated in composing and recording music for the 2011 BET Honors Awards with Fisticuffs as well.

Matthew recently released his debut album as a leader, "Questionable Creatures," on DeSoto Sound Factory. He leads his own band, Press Play, and is a member of The Prigs, Krystle Warren & the Faculty, Tropic of Pisces, and Brian Bonz & the Major Crimes.
